Scholarships
The University of Padua, the Veneto Region and other organisations offer various scholarship schemes to support students. Below is a list of the funding opportunities that are most often used by international students in Padua.
Regione Veneto Scholarships – a.y. 2020/21
N.B. for students enrolling in the second year of studies in the A.Y. 2020/21
Considering the exceptional situation that occurred during A.Y. 2019/2020, the verification of the achievement of 20 ECTS credits for students enrolled in the first year of A.Y. 2019/20 is postponed from 30 November 2020 to 28 February 2021
The University of Padua, through the Veneto Region funding, supports low-income students (both Italian and international) enrolling in Bachelor’s, Single-cycle or Master’s degrees and Phd courses.
Who can apply: any student meeting the below criteria:
- have a low family income (ISEE below euro 23,626.32 and ISPE below euro 36,399.72)
- have been admitted to one of the University of Padua degree courses or Phd courses
- comply with the conditions for obtaining an Italian visa
- do not benefit from any other national or international scholarship or grant
- meet the merit criteria and other additional requirements specified in the Call
Failure to meet one or more of these criteria automatically means that you are not eligible for this scholarship.

When to apply for the a.y. 2020/21: from 15 July to 30 September 2020.
Amount of scholarship: the amount of the scholarship varies according to your family income and other conditions specified in the Call. The scholarship may include both the exemption of tuition fees and a subsistence allowance, as well as free or discounted student services such as accommodation, meals at university canteens, etc.
Payments: students enrolled in the first year shall receive the scholarship in two instalments. The first one is paid by December 2020; the second one is paid in several periods of the year, in April, July and September, only if the student earn 20 ECTS credits by 10 August 2021 at the latest.
Students enrolled in years subsequent to the first shall receive the scholarship in one single instalment by December 2020.
Duration of scholarships: scholarships will be offered for one academic year, provided that you meet certain conditions (academic achievements, number of credits etc.). The request must be renewed every academic year.
Required documents: in order to apply for a regional scholarship, you need to provide your so called “Equivalent Economic Status Index (ISEE)” which also includes ISPE. Check the guide for further information.

Padua International Excellence Scholarship Programme – a.y. 2020/21
The University of Padua offers up to 43 scholarships to highly talented prospective students wishing to pursue a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree completely held in English in Padua. The scholarship programme is highly selective. Only candidates showing the highest achievements and school / academic records may receive a scholarship. Successful scholars will be expected to fulfil an ambassadorial role and represent the University at a number of events.
Amount of scholarship: fee-waiver + €8,000 scholarship (gross amount) per a.y. The only amount to be paid by beneficiary students for each year consists of an admission fee, corresponding to the regional tax and marca da bollo.
Duration: the Padua International Excellence Scholarship has a maximum duration of:
- 2 continuous years for Master’s degree candidates;
- 3 continuous years for Bachelor’s and Single Cycle degree candidates.
After the duration above indicated, beneficiary students will be required to cover their own expenses as well as tuition fees until graduation.
Who can apply: highly talented prospective international students from all over the world wishing to enrol in one of University of Padua Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees completely held in English.
How to apply: you can be considered for the selection procedure, under penalty of exclusion, if you meet the requirements below.
- do not possess an Italian citizenship (except for dual citizenship including Italian);
- hold a non-Italian foreign secondary school diploma (for Bachelor’s or Single cycle degrees applicants) or a non-Italian Bachelor’s degree (for Master’s degrees applicants) allowing admission to the Italian University system;
- apply to a degree programme completely taught in English at the University of Padua. Please remember that you can apply up to 3 degree programmes.
If you meet the requirements, you will be automatically included in the selection procedure. There is no separate application or additional specific documents to be submitted besides those required to apply for the selected degree programme.
Selection criteria: Padua International Excellence Scholarships could be assigned by the Selection Committees to the most talented student(s) admitted to each degree programme on the basis of their academic excellence and promise in the proposed field of study, academic quality and results of the prior education.
Acceptance: you must accept your place and pay the admission fee within the deadline. Moreover, you must not benefit from other national or international scholarships or grants and be able to comply with the conditions to finalise your enrolment at the University of Padua.
Payments arrangements and maintenance requirements: the scholarship will be paid in two (2) instalments of €4,000 (gross amount) each per academic year upon achievement of the merit requirements indicated in the Call for applications.
Revocation: the University of Padua will revoke your scholarship if:
- you do not obtain at least 20 ECTS by 30th November 2021
- you decide to transfer to another University or withdraw from your studies.
In the above cases, you shall refund the amount of the scholarship already received.

Galileian School of Higher Education Scholarships – a.y. 2020/21
The Scuola Galileiana di Studi Superiori (Galilean School of Higher Education) is the University of Padova’s school of excellence. It combines traditional university education with a series of special in-house courses comprising seminars and lectures by renowned international visiting professors.
Thirty highly talented students, both Italian and international (up to four), are selected each year through a competitive selection procedure and/or examination. If you are admitted, you will attend University of Padova courses and will be provided with free board and housing, language courses and personal study and career tutoring. As an international student, you may additionally be offered a reimbursement of travel expenses and a living allowance. You are expected to share rights and duties of all Galilean students.
Who can apply: you are eligible to apply if you:
- hold (or expect to hold by 31 July) a non-Italian first-cycle/Bachelor’s degreee
- have been admitted OR are eligible to be admitted to one of University of Padova Master’s degree courses
- be no older than 26 at the time of application
Available degree courses: you may choose any Master’s degree course offered by the University of Padova

The scholarship package includes: 1 round trip ticket from/to your home country (up to €1,500); free board and accommodation at University of Padova canteens and residences; reimbursement of documented expenses such as books, etc.; up to €5,000 living allowance. Infineon Scholarships – ICT for Internet and Multimedia – deadline: 2 November 2020
Who is it for: students of any nationality who are pre-enrolled to the Master’s degree programme in ICT for Internet and Multimedia at the University of Padova for the academic year 2020/21.
Amount: two scholarships of €5,000.00 each.

Infineon Scholarships – Ingegneria Elettronica – deadline: 2 November 2020
Who is it for: students of any nationality who are pre-enrolled in the Master’s degree programme in Ingegneria Elettronica at the University of Padua for the academic year 2020/21.
Amount: two scholarships of €5,000.00 each.
The integrative Decree no. 2100/2020 has changed:
– the deadline to participate: from the 31 August to the 2 November;
– the deadline by which the student has to graduate: from the 31 July to the 31 October;
– the deadline by which the first instalment will be paid: from October to November.

Scholarships for students enrolling to the Master’s degree programme in Mathematics – deadline: 30 September 2020
Who is it for: students enrolled for the a.y. 2020/21 to the first year of the Master’s degree in Mathematics.
Amount: 4 scholarships of €3,686.00 each, renewable

Who is it for: students enrolled for the a.y. 2020/21 to the first year of the Master’s degree in Computer science.

Scholarships for the Master’s degree programme in Historical Sciences – study track Mobility Studies – deadline: 31 August 2020
The Department of Historical and Geographical Sciences and the Ancient World offers 5 scholarships for the Master’s degree programme in Historical Sciences – study track ‘Mobility Studies’ for the A.Y. 2020/21
The amount of each scholarship is €4,500 (gross amount) per academic year. The scholarship is granted for two (2) academic years for a total amount of € 9,000 (gross amount).
How to apply
If you have an international entry qualification, you should submit your application for the Master’s degree in Mobility Studies on apply.unipd.it by the following deadlines:
- 7th June (non-EU candidates residing outside Italy)
- 7th July (EU candidates or non-EU candidates already residing in Italy)

In both cases you must submit the scholarship application form and the required documents to the Department of Historical and Geographical Sciences and the Ancient World by 31st August (12.00 AM CET), following the instructions provided in the Call for applications.
Admission requirements
You can participate in the selection procedure, under penalty of exclusion, if:
- you hold a Bachelor’s degree in Historical and Geographical Studies or a related subject, such as Philology, Literature, Sociology, Anthropology, Global Studies, or Social or Political Sciences. Minimum GPA equal or equivalent to Italian 94/110
OR
you are enrolled to the last year of a Bachelor’s degree in Historical and Geographical Studies or related subjects. In case of an Italian qualification, it must be awarded by 31st December; otherwise the final diploma must be provided upon enrolment and no later than 31st October - you possess a B2 level (CEFR) English language proficiency
- you do not benefit from other scholarships
- you have neither criminal records nor pending criminal proceedings
Selection criteria
Scholarships will be assigned by a Selection Committee, nominated by the Director of the Department of Historical and Geographical Sciences and the Ancient World.
The Selection Committee will consider the following criteria: academic excellence including GPA and final thesis; motivation to attend the degree programme; curriculum vitae. The Selection Committee may decide to interview candidates.
The scholarship results will be published by 10th September on the Department of Historical and Geographical Sciences and the Ancient World’s website and on the University of Padua’s website. Beneficiary candidates will be notified by email (at the address indicated in the application form).
Scholarships offered by Departments – a.y. 2020/21
The following Departments offer additional scholarships to international students:
Department of Agronomy, Food, Natural resources, Animals and Environment (DAFNAE)
- 4 scholarships for the Master’s degree in Italian Food and Wine
- 4 scholarships for the Master’s degree in Sustainable Agriculture.
The amount of each scholarship is €5,760.37 per academic year. The Scholarship is granted for two (2) academic years.
Department of Political Science, Law, and International Studies (SPGI)
- 2 scholarships for the Master’s degree in Human Rights and Multi-level Governance
- 2 scholarships for the Master’s degree in European and Global Studies
The amount of each scholarship is €5,760.37. The Scholarship is granted for one (1) academic year.
Department of Information Engineering (DEI)
3 scholarships distributed among applicants to the Master’s degrees in ICT for Internet and Multimedia, Computer Engineering and Control Systems Engineering. The amount of each scholarship is €5,200. The Scholarship is granted for one (1) academic year
Department of Comparative Biomedicine and Food Science (BCA)
- 1 scholarship for the Bachelor’s degree in Animal Care
- 1 scholarship for the Master’s degree in Biotechnologies for food science
The amount of each scholarship is €2,400. The Scholarship is granted for one (1) academic year
Department of Physics and Astronomy (DFA)
- 2 scholarships for the Master’s degree in Astrophysics and Cosmology
- 2 scholarships for the Master’s degree in Physics of Data.
The amount of each scholarship is €10,000 (gross amount) per academic year. The scholarship is granted for two (2) academic years for a total amount of €20,000 (gross amount).
Department of Mathematics “Tullio Levi-Civita” (DM)
- 2 scholarships for the Master’s degree in Cybersecurity
- 2 scholarships for the Master’s degree in Data Science
The amount of each scholarship is €5,500 (gross amount) per academic year. The scholarship is granted for two (2) academic years for a total amount of € 11,000 (gross amount).
How to appy: you can be considered for the selection procedure, under penalty of exclusion, if you:
1. do not possess an Italian citizenship (except for dual citizenship including Italian);
2. hold a non-Italian secondary school diploma (for Bachelor’s degree applicants) or a non-Italian Bachelor’s degree (for Master’s degree applicants);
3. apply to one or more degree programmes completely taught in English mentioned above. Please remember that you can apply up to 3 degree programmes.
If you meet these requirements, you will be automatically considered for the selection procedure. There is no separate application or additional specific documents to be submitted besides those required to apply for the selected degree programme.
Selection criteria: admitted candidates are selected for a scholarship on the basis of their academic excellence and promise in the proposed field of study, academic quality and results of the preceding education, etc.

Other National and International Scholarships
Scholarships awarded by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation – a.y. 2020/21
Every year, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation awards scholarships for studying in Italy to both International students and Italian students who are permanent residents in countries other than Italy (IRE).
The aim of these scholarships is to foster international cultural cooperation, spread the knowledge of the Italian language, culture and science, as well as promote the Italian economic and technological system throughout the world. Grants are offered to pursue study, training, and/or research programs at Italian Higher Education Institutes, both public and legally recognised.
Who can apply: International students and Italian students who are permanent residents in countries other than Italy (IRE).
Eligible courses: scholarship applications are open to students wishing to apply to one of the following type of courses offered by the University of Padova:
- Master’s degree courses (Laurea magistrale)
- PhD Programmes
- Research under academic supervision (Progetti in co-tutela)
Age requirements:
- Master’s degree courses: applicants should not be over 28 years old by the deadline of this call, with the sole exception of renewals.
- PhD Programmes: applicants should not be over 30 years old by the deadline of this call, with the sole exception of renewals.
- Research Projects under academic supervision: applicants should not be over 40 years old by the deadline of this call.
Language requirements:
- Italian-taught courses: B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). The language certificate is to be submitted together with the application: https://www.linguaitaliana.esteri.it/data/lingua/corsi/pdf/tabella_certificazioni.pdf.

Invest Your Talent – a.y. 2020/21
Invest Your Talent in Italy supports talented international students wishing to enrol in English-taught Master’s degree programmes in the fields of Engineering and Information Technologies, Management and Economics at top-ranked Italian universities, including the University of Padua. The programme offers full scholarship packages including subsistence allowance, fee-waiver and dedicated student support services. A short internship at leading Italian companies is also foreseen as part of the programme. It is supported by the Italian Government and the Italian Trade Agency.
In addition to the scholarships provided by the IYT project, the University of Padua will award 2 additional scholarships to students selected by the Invest Your Talent Technical Committee who have chosen the University of Padua as their destination.
Who can apply: the programme is open to talented students who completed at least a Bachelor’s degree and come from one of the following countries: Azerbaijan, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Popular Republic of China, Turkey, Tunisia and Vietnam.

Amount of scholarship: The scholarship consists of a monthly amount of 900 euros (net) for the duration of 9 months and it could be renewed for the second year of the Master’s Degree, upon the achievement of at least 30 ECTS credits. To be granted the scholarship, students are also required to complete a 3-months compulsory internship in an Italian enterprise.
Duration of scholarships: scholarships will be offered for one academic year. It might be renewed for the second year upon certain conditions.

University Corridors for Refugees – 2.0 (Ethiopia – 2020/2022)
In cooperation with UNHCR, the University of Padua offers 2 scholarships for the A.Y. 2020/21 to refugee students.
Amount: the scholarship include full tuition fee-waivers, accommodation, meals at university canteens and many free services offered by Caritas and Diaconia Valdese
Duration: 2 years
Who can apply: students who:
- are residing in Ethiopia and have been recognized the refugee status in collaboration with UNHCR
- hold a qualification valid for admission to the chosen second-cycle degree programme, issued by a higher education institution accredited in the Ethiopian higher education system
- Have a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.0 according to the Ethiopian tertiary education grading system
- Meet the specific admission requirements of the second-cycle degree programme of interest, or will meet such requirements by the deadline of enrolment
Please note that the scholarship cannot be granted to students who have obtained other scholarships funded by Italian public institutions (e.g.: Regional Scholarship)

100 scholarships for refugee students/students with international protection – a.y. 2020/21
According to the Conference of Italian University Rectors (CRUI), in cooperation with ANDISU (Italian Association of Right to Study Organizations), the Italian Ministry of Interior offers 100 scholarships for the A.Y. 2020/21 to refugee students or students who obtained international protection in Italy by 30th July 2020.
Amount: the scholarship include full tuition fee-waivers and free student services such as accommodation, meals at university canteens, etc.
Duration: 1 year
Who can apply: students having the status of refugees or subsidiary protection and belonging to the following categories:
- Winners of the previous calls in the A.Y. 2016/17, A.Y. 2017/2018, A.Y. 2018/2019 and A.Y. 2019/2020 who are entitled to obtain the scholarship in A.Y. 2020/2021 if they have obtained the minimum number of ECTS credits indicated in the Call for applications
- Students with suitable entry qualification, obtained in Italy by 25th July 2020, who enrol for the first time at an Italian University in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or PhD programme – A.Y. 2020/21
Please note that the scholarship cannot be granted to students who have obtained other scholarships funded by Italian public institutions (e.g.: Regional Scholarship)

PhD Scholarships
China Scholarship Council – University of Padova Scholarships
The University of Padova and the China Scholarship Council (CSC) have created a scholarship programme to enable talented Chinese students to undertake a PhD programme at Padova.
The scholarships build on Padova University’s existing relationship with China. It has, in fact, extensive research links with Chinese research institutions and Universities. This scheme provides Chinese students who demonstrate academic excellence and leadership potential with the opportunity to study for a PhD at the University of Padova. They are supported jointly by the China Scholarship (on behalf of the Chinese Ministry of Education) and the University of Padova.

Gini Foundation: Grants for Foreign Nationals
The Fondazione “Ing. Aldo Gini” supports those who plan to pursue a period of study and/or specialization in a department of the University of Padova in the scientific fields of Agriculture, Engineering or Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences for a period of at least six months and no more than one year.
Deadline: August 31, 2019
